Putian University Admissions Information for International Students

Putian University (PTU) is a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002. It is located in Putian, Fujian, a coastal city known as the home of Mazu, the “Goddess of Peace” at sea. The Fujian provincial government and the city manage PTU. The university passed the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching qualification assessments in 2011 and 2017. 

PTU has received multiple honors, including being recognized as the patriotism education base of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, a National Verdurization Model Unit, and an Advanced Unit of Mental Health Education. The campus has also been awarded “Civilized School” and “Safe Campus” titles in Fujian Province.

The university spans two campuses, covering a total area of 309.12 hectares and a building space of 717,000 square meters. PTU houses 17 schools and offers 55 undergraduate majors in fields such as engineering, business, nursing, arts, and medicine. 

The university has partnerships with over 150 enterprises and research institutions within China and internationally and collaborates with foreign universities like Dundee University (UK) and Massey University (New Zealand). PTU ranks among the top 500 Chinese universities in terms of international competitiveness, and it actively supports students and teachers in participating in exchange programs abroad.

II. Admission Categories

  1. Non-academic Programs (Language Students):
    Study durations can range from 6 months to 2 years. The academic year starts in September, and students will be placed in classes based on their level of Chinese. Upon completion and passing the exams, students receive a certificate of completion.

  2. Degree Programs (Undergraduate Students):
    Undergraduate programs last for 4-5 years, depending on the major. Courses are taught in Chinese, and successful students are awarded a Bachelor’s degree and a Putian University diploma.

III. Application Eligibility

  1. Basic Requirements:

    • Applicants must be between 18-30 years old and non-Chinese citizens.
    • Applicants should be in good health and possess good moral character.
    • Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who have emigrated must hold valid foreign passports for at least four years and have lived abroad for at least two years.
  2. Specific Requirements:

    • Language Students: Must have completed high school (equivalent to middle school level).
    • Undergraduate Students: Must have completed high school with good academic performance and possess a Chinese proficiency certificate (HSK Level 4 or higher).

IV. Application Deadlines

  • Applications for both language and undergraduate programs must be submitted by July 10.
  • Late applicants must contact the admissions office before submitting their materials.

V. Required Documents

  1. Basic Documents:

    • Application form (download from PTU website)
    • Copy of passport
    • Two recent passport-sized photos
    • Physical exam record
    • Study plan (at least 400 words)
    • Financial Support Guarantee Statement
    • Certificate of no criminal record
  2. Additional Documents:

    • Language students: High school diploma
    • Undergraduate students: High school diploma, HSK certificate, recommendation letter

Note: All documents must be notarized and accompanied by English or Chinese translations if not already in those languages.

Putian university 

  1. Send your documents by mail or fax to the Academic Affairs Office of PTU.

Admission and Registration

  1. PTU will review applications and post-admission results on its website. Accepted students will receive a “Notice of Admission” and a visa application form (JW202).
  2. After receiving the required documents, students must apply for a visa (X1) at a Chinese embassy.
  3. Upon arrival in China, students must register at PTU with the original admission documents.
  4. Tuition and accommodation fees must be paid after arriving at the university.

Insurance

All international students must purchase medical and accident insurance for their studies. Proof of insurance must be submitted at registration.

Scholarships in 

Putian university 

PTU offers two types of scholarships for international students:

  1. Government Scholarship: Eligible students can apply for the Fujian Provincial Government’s international student scholarship.
  2. Putian University Scholarship: Awarded annually based on academic performance, this scholarship can cover tuition, accommodation, registration fees, medical insurance, and living expenses.

Campus Life

  1. PTU offers various cultural events, sports activities, and student associations.
  2. Dormitories have basic amenities like bathrooms, internet, and air conditioning.
  3. The university’s canteens provide a range of cuisines, including local Puxian dishes and international options.
  4. PTU’s affiliated hospital offers 24-hour medical services and an emergency hotline.

 

Putian university fees

  1. Registration Fee: RMB 400
  2. Tuition Fees:
    • Language Students: RMB 12,000 per year
    • Undergraduates: RMB 14,000 to RMB 21,000 per year (depending on the major)
  3. Accommodation:
    • Two-person room: RMB 2,600 per year
    • Four-person room: RMB 1,300 per year
